Looking for a hostess gift for your next socially-distanced Christmas party? Or maybe just a little something fun for a friend or co-worker? How about a quick and easy Christmas gift basket?
Gift baskets are one of my favorite for these kinds of things because they’re customizable and can be done relatively inexpensively. Here’s a cute Christmas gift basket if you’re needing some ideas!
All of my supplies and gift basket items are from…yep…Hobby Lobby. It’s hard to beat their 50% off prices on a lot of things. Plus, they just have lots to choose from which makes customizing easier. But stores such as Ross, Marshalls, and Tuesday Morning also have great gift basket items, and there are plenty of online options, too.
What You’ll Need:
- Small basket, tin, or box
- Filler – tissue paper, paper shreds, or “snow”
- Decorative tissue paper
- Ribbon or bow
- 2 Small stems or bunches of greenery
- A cute gift tag if you want one
- Gift items: some of my favorites include a mug, tea/cocoa/coffee, a candle, candy or chocolate, socks or scarf, mini card, chapstick, and small bottle of lotion or body wash.
Here was my material selection and cost:
$2.50 tin, $2 snow, $2.50 mug, $1.50 stems, $1.50 ribbon, $2.50 candle, and decorative tissue paper, gift tag, and tea and candy canes that I had at home.
Step 1: Add the Filler & Largest Items
Use the tissue paper to fill the mug. One of your greenery stems should go in the basket, wherever you need a little filler. This can go in at any point, but since I just have a few smaller items to place in front, I used my stem to fill a gap in the back.
Step 2: Prep the Bow
Using your ribbon, make a bow in whatever style you like best. Here’s a great tutorial for an easy bow. It takes a few tries to get used to the technique, but it comes together quickly once you do.
Wired ribbon is a little easier to work with, but it’s not necessary. You can use any ribbon you want. Since a wide, wired ribbon is a few dollars more that I was wanting to spend on this, I used a 5/8″ floral ribbon.
Once you have your bow made, place the stem of your second piece of greenery through the back of your bow.
Step 3: Add Smaller Gift Items & Bow
Next, add in your smaller items, but leave some space front and center for your bow. Stick the stem of your greenery with the bow into the front of the basket. Easy – no glue, no tying, no fuss.
That’s it! A quick and easy Christmas gift basket that also looks really cute! I tied a cute gift label to the stem under the bow, but that’s totally optional.
And if you’re looking for a more homemade element for your gift basket, how about some homemade soaps?
