Halloween 2020!

It’s important to remember to have fun, especially this year. Halloween is always a great time to do that. We see it as an commonly recognized excuse to get whimsical and playful. I mean, Candy, Costumes, and Crafts – what more do I need to say?

To start it all off, we made a family of our fantastic little Emojighosts (check those out here) for our front porch, then we had an awesome time carving pumpkins with our friends, and lastly we created some very timely costumes for ourselves! Of course, we dressed up as the real super-heroes of 2020: Covid Testers.

All we needed was some scrubs, surgical masks and gloves, a face-shield, and oh, an ENORMOUS testing swap.

Here’s how to make one of your own!

Materials

  • 3/4″ PVC pipe – four feet long
  • 3/4″ wooden dowel – three feet long
  • 16-20 oz plastic bottle
  • small (1/2″ or so) screws
  • Bag of cotton balls
  • Hot glue (5-10 sticks)
  • White spray paint

Step 1 – The Staff

Insert the wood dowel into the plastic bottle and screw the bottom of the bottle to the end of the staff. Then, insert the other end of the staff into the PVC pipe and screw the two together, overlapping by a foot. This creates a total length of the social-distance-recommended six feet.

Hot Chocolate optional, but preferred. Marshmallows mandatory.

Step 2 – The Swab

Fluff out the cotton balls a bit and hot-glue them all around the plastic bottle. It’ll take several sticks of hot glue to do this.

That’s it! No you, too, can pay homage to the front line workers who are our first points of contact in this fight against the pandemic. We are so grateful to them and all the sacrifices they (and all of the personnel in our medical fields) make in order to respond to this ongoing crisis. Thank you, and God bless you all.
